Hello and welcome to another week of What's On Your Workdesk Wednesday. WOYWW is an excuse to look at other people's crafting spaces and see what's inspiring them, all courtesy of our hostess, Julia. Join in the fun here.
My desks this week -
I'm being a greedy little pig this week and making the most of the now Christmas-less dining room table to cut the pieces for a shirt I'm going to make. Don't hold your breath. I bought the correct size pattern, but it didn't occur to me that my bust would be an entire two sizes larger, which means sadly, that the finished item won't do up at the front. It's okay though. I'm hoping to team it with vest tops in the summer.
This is my real desk. Stack of 74 envelopes at the back all have hand-cut cards in them for this year's Christmas cards (I'm allowed to mention the C-word until the end of January, right?!). The purple card in front is for my sister's birthday. The cross stitch at the front is going to be a cake band for the Christmas cake I hope to make this year. At the back is a kingfisher long stitch found while sorting Granny's belongings. I'm going to stitch it for her and have it framed along with the Robin long stitch I did before Christmas.
I have no idea what I'll be doing during the week, so check back next Wednesday to see what happened! I'll visit you if you visit me. Have a great week all. x
what a shame if that top won't fit... hope you can sort it. You are about the 3rd desk I've been to today, who's getting ahead for Christmas!! Helen #5
ReplyDeleteI have the same bust problem but I dont make my own clothes.

SO impressed that you have such a jump start on next year's cards!!! I'm still working on "winter" cards for the people I missed in time for Christmas, lol! Oh well, thought that counts and all that sort of thing. I haven't done any needlework since I discovered stamping. I should but I've become too addicted to paper and ink!
ReplyDeleteHappy Crafting!

Lots of great projects on your desk. Hopefully one of the great woyww sewers might have a solution for your top.

You're the second desker I've visited today who is already working on her C-cards for 2015! You're either mad or just very-very dedicated! I am, for one, so happy that it's all over I don't have to worry about it for another year! Happy WOYWW! zsuzsa @ InkyDinkyDoodle #47
ReplyDeleteThe long stich patterns look fun. It will be neat to see them finished. And..Christmas cards?? I won't start mine until maybe Dec. 15 of next year LOL Happy WOYWW Shel#56
ReplyDeleteWorking on your C-cards for 2015? Smart you! I hope to start next month. And my poor sewing machine has been gathering dust for a LONG time. Thanks for popping by and Happy WOYWW!

I don't sew, but I have lots of shirts like that! I layer them over t-shirts in winter, and camisoles in summer. (can no longer go bra-less, so that way I get to wear the camis that I own and the shirts that don't fit! LOL) Where there's a will, there's a way. I'm not working on C-cards, but I am working on the C-craft fair for 2015. {smile} Thanks for your visit. Happy WOYWW
ReplyDeleteWow, thinking about next Christmas, now that's what I call organised. Good Luck with your sewing and thanks for popping by earlier.

Wow! And I thought I started early when I started making Christmas cards in November! x

Yes, fitting over a full bust can be tricky. They say to buy the pattern based on your bust size, but then other areas can be too big. If you look online for "how to make a full bust adjustment" it will show you how to alter your pattern so it still fits in the shoulders and waist. Happy sewing!
ReplyDeleteThanks for your visit to my blog and for the nice comments.
Happy creating & Happy Woyww,

Patterns are so variable, aren't they....Julia fell foul of a pattern mis-size last year, I remember. At least you can still wear yours unbuttoned!
ReplyDeleteThanks for dropping by :-)

Hi Lucy, I find you never can tell with patterns what sizing you'll need. I've been sewing for a one year old and using small size on the baby sizing. Lovely tidy desk and getting 2015 Christmas ready is scary but I like it. Cheers RobynO#51
ReplyDeleteah Lucy, I always alter patterns to fit as we are not the same the world over.. only way to go.
ReplyDeleteoh and I use the word Christmas all year around as thin really best celebrated all year around .. great cross stitch

Just calling in on a few I missed yesterday to say thank for calling by on me.
ReplyDeleteLovely to see someone with fabric on their desk...you should have cut the fabric to your own measurements just using the pattern as guidance so it would fasten. It's not so hard to do......shout if you need advise.

I'm fascinated by your cuttings out method! We all things so differently! Delighted that you're planning so far ahead this year already, and I think it will be fab that you finish the long stitch for your Nan, how kind.
